I submit this for anyone needing an image to demonstrate the term “gnarly.” This is from the Smithfield Plantation conservation land in the town of Litchfield, Maine; one of my favorite places.
A man-made pond with no name (that I know of) lies in the middle of the back woods. A small cabin sits at the far end on the left side. Imagining a moose along the shore is easy and more than just whimsy; we have seen moose tracks in the boggy area in the pond’s drainage stream.
