On a small island underneath the Chesapeake Bay bridge, a large contingent of herring gulls spend their summer day sitting, standing, and flying around.

During a short cruise across the mid Chesapeake Bay, we saw many ospreys, cormorants, and gulls above the water. A couple stingrays went by in the water, as well.

The nest is about 40 feet up in a rotting birch tree. It has taken patience, luck, a long lens, a tripod, and just enough shutter speed for a decent image.
