After waiting twenty minutes for some action on the far bog, this white-breasted nuthatch showed up. After checking out this old, dead tree, he found some food as I prayed for him to get out of the shadows.
Our friends in Maryland have maintained a birdhouse for bluebirds for years. Apparently if one doesn’t keep the birdhouse clean, the bluebirds stay away and field sparrows take up residence.
Another local inhabitant cruises the bog for food. This is probably a savannah sparrow but I am still researching. His distinctive belly color pattern should help me narrow it down.
