Top of the pass visitor

Brown spotted white bird of AlaskaWhile switching engines at White Pass on the Alaska-Yukon Territory border in May, we were entertained by this visitor walking toward us on the snow.

I found later that this is probably a white-tailed ptarmigan or snow grouse?

Onward to the Yukon

Yukon route railway D81_5961_zHeading north to Whitehorse in Canada’s Yukon Territory on the White Pass & Yukon Route railway out of Skagway, Alaska. The narrow gauge rail follows the route used by gold rushers in the late 1890s.
