Small bird in the big forest
birds
Nesting material
A small vireo (maybe?) grabs discarded hair from our malamute husky.
Mallard by the creek
A pair of Mallard ducks have decided to live by the beaver bog creek; we have seen the two of them several times this week. Mrs. Mallard can be hard to spot among the brown underbrush.
Seagull flyby
Canada goose
More nest building
A cormorant gathers some finishing material for the nest.
Nest building
A cormorant heads to their oceanside nest after pulling an old branch with leaves from a nearby fresh water pond
Song sparrow awaits
A healthy song sparrow is caught in a tree near my mother-in-law’s bird feeder.
Winter woodpecker
A rare walk in the backwoods this winter allowed us to see the woodpeckers at work. Here a female downy woodpecker was found twenty-five feet in the forest ceiling.
Waiting his turn
