Not rolling
On a patrol to what we call the farthest bog yesterday, we found unmistakable evidence that the beavers have returned here. We have previously noticed signs but now it is clear. Check here this week to see some other images.
The fall foliage colors are peaking at the bog along the Smithfield Plantation reserve in Litchfield, Maine.
Twenty or more years ago, this open space was part of the forest seen in the background. The creek that winds it way through here was dammed by beavers and the open space now filled with grasses, bushes, and dead tree trunks became a lake. Among the grasses and bushes are small trees that will grow into a forest again (if the humans don’t develop it first).
