Along the Kennebec river on the Augusta east side, I typically find a heron or two checking out this small island not far from the towering Memorial Bridge. This is probably not the first photo I have posted from this spot.

While walking along the Pleasant pond in Maine last month, I spotted a couple of guys fishing in a small boat near me. I greeted them and asked if they had seen any ospreys or eagles recently. They said, “No.”
About twenty minutes later as I continued on my walk, I spotted an eagle cruising along the center of the pond. It then turned toward me and the fishermen, cruised directly over them (and they were oblivious of its presence) and settled in a tree directly above me.
I caught this wood duck on the beaver pond in the back woods earlier this year. I get excited whenever I manage to get close to one – they are not common or likely to stay near when you do get close.
