This old tree has lost all its bark and stands proudly in the forest as if it was a carefully carved sculpture.

This bog water is frozen solid but looks fluid; branches, grasses, leaves, and air bubbles are captured during this week.

Maine birches
Ancient stone walls
One of my favorite places: a well-crafted stone wall found out in the middle of a local forest. Two hundred years ago, this wall probably marked a cleared field producing agricultural products or supported a dairy herd. It is now a hidden treasure and monument to our past.
Curvature of the birch
One of the legacies of a New England ice storm: permanently arched tree trunks. These birches did not fully recover but, they did not break.
Changing colors
In Maine, if you watch carefully, one can see the leaves changing color in the fall.
