During our recent visit to southern New Hampshire near Exeter, we found other creatures during our trail walks.
We were fortunate this past week to find a couple of chickadees checking out a stump along the trail. Their apparent interest in evaluating this stick of wood, inside and out, caused them to ignore my nearby presence.

During a late evening while lounging at a New Hampshire lakeshore cottage, a heron suddenly arrived and perched on a tree top in front of us. Grabbed my phone and captured the bird through porch screening and dwindling light. The bird stayed, swaying on the light branches for a few minutes and departed.
