Autumn approaches
A female mallard slowly cruises through the algae infested water of a small Connecticut pond.
Caught in the act in southeastern Connecticut today: a female downy woodpecker goes after the syrup in the hummingbird feeder.
While walking along the Kennebec river in Augusta, Maine, the other day. This cormorant kept moving ahead of me as I walked.
Another look at the lone loon on Woodbury Pond the other day (see previous post). Typically they are seen well out in the middle of the pond whenever we visit. When they do venture closer to shore, typically I have no camera or just a phone. This is the best I can do with the pretty good iPhone Pro Max, hand held.
We journeyed over to the pond this afternoon and was lucky to have a visitor drifting around with no apparent purpose. I suspect this loon wanted to make me mad by presenting a great potential image at the same time catching me with only my iPhone.
On a visit to the Ice pond yesterday, we encountered a frequent visitor, according to my brother, on the far side. This night heron has been hanging around for a while and I was lucky enough to catch it while it was investigating the algae filled pond.
We have made it to summer finally. The New England weather at the time of the solstice last week was quite Spring like. For example, forty-eight degrees (F) in the morning does not seem SummerTime. Eight-five degrees and humid, that’s more like it.
