From a Connecticut sea-side marsh.

The early morning light catches the mother osprey squawking and carrying a big stick over my head last week.

The mother osprey returns with a branch after her initial passes over my head (see my earlier post) . Before putting the branch into her nest as shown here, she flew over me several times. I wasn’t sure if she was going to drop it on me or whack me with it.

As I approached an osprey nest with a mom and two chicks, she leaped out of the nest and came rushing toward me to check me out.
From the recent visit to the farthest bog where the beavers swim we caught this warbler, or something else, on the trail.
Over by the bog near the beaver’s den we found this grackle-we-think. The bird is wandering along the trail now covered by water backed up by beaver damming.
This is one of our regulars. Most likely a male hairy woodpecker based on a the red crown and beak, but we have seen downy woodpeckers here also.

We had a good week for birding close to home. Robins have finally arrived to look for food in the backyard.
