Sparrowing into Spring
During a mid-winter walk at the Gardiner (Maine) Landing, a few gulls were hanging, or standing, along the river front.
During our long weekend visit to the Mystic area, we found numerous hooded mergansers in many locations.
Once the creature notices your presence, the action part of the story begins. Thank goodness for auto-focus. This bird simply flew across the Ice Pond to the other side, just far enough to command a presence and diminish photographic quality.
During our lucky weekend in Connecticut, we caught this heron on the shore of the north edge of the Ice pond. Is it the same one we posted yesterday, or not?
On a walk by the Ice Pond this weekend, we finally lucked out with one of the local herons.

Getting back into the archives, we had a nice walk this summer along the Connecticut coast. Here at a beach on Enders Island, a gull was spotted playing with a crab. I had to wait several minutes for the bird to turn around and give us a clear view of its catch.
