Rachel Carson still lives here

image D81_4387_2016110489zLooking at the salt marsh and estuary on the Maine coast now protected from human development, but not human influence, as part of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. This “wildlife” and view (from last year) will be gone in fifty years as the ice packs melt and the ocean rises.

Heron on the edge

D7K_7889_zA heron carefully stayed on the edge of the marsh while several egrets (not shown) were grazing for small fish snacks along the front edge of the Poggy Bay marsh. The heron was hard to notice among the rocks but a telephoto lens helps.
