Found a mallard actually floating in the duck weed this past week.
During an evening walk down to the marsh last weekend, we found a solitary great egret standing in mid-channel. Eventually he? poked at the water for minnows but flew off as I crept closer.
Last weekend the hummingbirds were feeding regularly at my brother’s feeder. I concentrated on getting a shot of one in the nearby trees and found this one at the perfect angle to show off his colorful throat.

Our local newspaper reported that it is prime time for the American goldfinch in Maine. The kids have hatched, the start of winter migration is months away, and several competitive species have already departed for their wintering grounds.
