After my hummingbird feeder broke and the flowering plants seemed dull this year, I did not think we would see many birds. We did have a couple and after waiting with my camera for hours, we got lucky.

Fishing in the harbor

Another look at the cormorant at the dock’s edge in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, last weekend.
Cormorant on the dock

A cormorant dries its wings at the end of a dock along the Boothbay Harbor waterfront last Sunday
Sunday lunch

A cormorant gets lucky at lunchtime in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, on Sunday. A returning fisherman threw a fish to this beggar of a bird.
Saturday breakfast stop 2

From the Saturday morning visit by our summer visitor; this is a couple more shots of this busy little bird.
Saturday breakfast stop 1
We waited a couple hours outside on the front steps this morning hoping one of our summer residents came by for a snack. We got ready with a smaller, lighter camera with a tripod. It soon showed a “battery Low” warning. Went and got my more robust rig and waited. Suddenly, there it was!
Bittern on the march
This is another image of a “least American bittern.” I am guessing it is the same one I saw on 13-August (see my earlier post). We caught up with him this evening on the no-name pond.
Humming along
We caught a hummingbird sampling the jewel weeds along our driveway last week.
Bird at the pond’s edge
We were surprised to spot this crow-sized bird along the shore of the no-name pond the other day. At the time and after checking my references, I am not sure if this is a heron or a bittern (a least American bittern is a good possibility from field mark descriptions).
