In a close encounter on a Maine pond, a gang of loons queried why I was there

Mallards fly-by
The rural robin
We have had this robin hanging around the yard for the last four days.
West of Vancouver Island
A west coast gull does a flyby last month during the Pacific Ocean leg of our cruise.
Top of the pass visitor
While switching engines at White Pass on the Alaska-Yukon Territory border in May, we were entertained by this visitor walking toward us on the snow.
I found later that this is probably a white-tailed ptarmigan or snow grouse?
Mallard Convoy
A family of mallards chose to skoot away from us when we came upon them in an inlet on a nearby pond.
Someone’s looking at me
Ever get the feeling that someone is looking at you? We came upon this barred owl on our local trail. We spotted him ahead of us flying from the ground up to this tree branch. He then sat there until we got too close and he flew off.
Pre-summer sapsucker
A male sapsucker stopped by the other day
Where eagles stare
During a recent visit to Ketchikan, Alaska, we heard that eagles are commonplace along Alaska’s southeastern shore. We found them perched on houses, on tree tops along the water’s edge, and cellphone towers.
The fish was THIS big!
