To start the summer we found a heron waiting for his picture to be taken (her?) near Annabessacook Lake in central Maine.

Once the creature notices your presence, the action part of the story begins. Thank goodness for auto-focus. This bird simply flew across the Ice Pond to the other side, just far enough to command a presence and diminish photographic quality.
